I just noticed my friend Matt Fenwick at True North Writing posted up this article which i thought worthy of sharing http://truenorthwriting.com.au/odesk-and-elance-is-online-outsourcing-worth-it/
“Outsourcing” has become increasingly popular through sites like Odesk, Elance and Freelancer to name a few, and having engaged literally thousands of hours worth of offshore consulting services through both Odesk and Elance over the past few years i can tell you that one of the points in Matt’s article, that of cultural differences, cannot be understated.
Whilst the low price tag is attractive if you don’t get what you want your project can ultimately more expensive and take significantly longer which unfortunately i know from first hand experience.
Writing professional copy which picks up on linguistic nuances is a skill that not even all australians possess. In any case getting professional (and local) help on your web copy is an excellent idea.
If outsourcing (off shore) your website copy is still on your to do list don’t forget to set very clear expectations on required timeframe, length, style, and key points that you want the copy to hit. More importantly ask the person you hire to repeat back to you, in their own words what you’ve asked. You’ll get a better result.
